Moving On

video upload by Martin Peters

"The initial idea for this track is that it uses a 4 chord progression centered around the note E to give the music some variation. The chords are Em, C, C#m and D Major Add 9. I recorded several takes last week with a solo on the Minimoog but I was never satisfied or could not get the solo right. Last week I also got the Boss SY-200 Synthesizer pedal for I was curious what it could do. After using it a week I have got mixed feelings on the pedal but maybe I have got to explore it a little bit more. I am not a big fan of using guitars in electronic music, but in this video I use it for the solo part. It's not perfect but I wanted to get this track out and move on with other things, hence the title.

Anyways, the track starts with a bass on the Synthesizers.com, percussive noise from the Korg ARP Odyssey and a sequence from the Tom Oberheim SEM. After that sequences are added from the Weston Precision Audio PAO and Verbos Harmonic Oscillator Eurorack modules, the DSI Mopho, the Moog Prodigy and the Synthesizers.com Modular. The strings are from the Roland JD-800. The guitar solo is performed on a Gibson Les Paul Studio through the Boss SY-200 pedal with some 'Pat Metheny like' sound. Hope you will like it.

Translucent

video upload by Martin Peters

"Sometimes I get a melody or sequence line in my head and I record it humming in my iPhone. And sometimes I program that in the Cirklon. Most of the time it appears that it hasn't got the potential that I thought it would have. Then I start changing bits and then all of the sudden I think it is going somewhere. That's how this track was born and recorded in about 2 hours.

The track starts with sequences from the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, the Tom Oberheim SEM and the Synthesizers.com Modular doing the bass-line with some randomness. After that a sequence on the DSI Mopho is added. An FM-like tone from the Waldorf Q Keyboard is used for the melody followed by the Roland JD-800 for some Fairlight-like chords. After that the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator doubles the sequence from the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator. The track is recorded live on the X-Live SD card of the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed afterwards in Studio One.

Lockdown

video upload by Martin Peters

"Here is a relative short track that developed yesterday. Yesterday, when in the Netherlands another Lockdown of 3 weeks was proclaimed. Anyways, I hope you are healthy and maybe this track will cheer you up a little. Five sequences are running on the Cirklon. The bass from the Synthesizers.com Modular and sequences from the 4ms Ensemble Oscillator, the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator filtered by the Mutable Instruments Ripples, the Tom Oberheim SEM and the DSI Mopho. The solo is performed of the Waldorf Q Keyboard and the strings on the Roland JD-800.

Third Wave

video by Martin Peters

"This track began as a melody I had in my head during walking the dog. I entered the melody in the Cirklon sequencer and added some accompanying sequences. Add here you see and hear the result.

The track starts with the bass on the Synthesizers.com Modular and the melody on the Tom Oberheim SEM. After that the rhythmic noises from the Plaits through Clouds are added. The sequences on the Korg ARP Odyssey and a voice on the Modular with the MOS-LAB Kobol VCO's are introduced. And in comes the Roland JD-800 with a strings-like pad. An improvised solo is played on the Minimoog.

In the second part double-time sequences of another Modular voice and the Mopho are added. Chords are played on the Polymoog and again an improvised solo on the Minimoog.

This track is recorded live to multi-track and mixed in Studio One afterwards. Only tracks from the live recording are used.

This track is also available on Bandcamp:"

Clouds Forming

Martin Peters

"A couple of weeks ago I got my Oberheim OB-Mx back from repairs after it has been in repair for a year. There are 3 voicecards inside, each containing 2 voices, so it has 6 voices in total. But 1 of these voicecards could not be tuned anymore. The repair-shop could not find the problem so I still have 1 voicecard I cannot use.

Anyways, this video starts with the Oberheim OB-Mx having the VCA's opened playing a G minor chord. The Minimoog solo comes in and there is a sort of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' deja-vu. The Polymoog with the Behringer VP1 Phaser accompanies the Minimoog. After that some tones are added from the Synthesizers.com Modular, Oberheim SEM and Korg ARP Odyssey with the VCA's opened. Then the sequences start, adding the Joranalogue Generate 3 and Mutable Instruments Plaits. It all builds up to a climax where the Odyssey plays some notes. And after that it all fades out to nothing.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. The mix only involves some gain staging, EQ and compression. No track edits where performed and no automation was used.

I hope you will enjoy it

November Storm

Martin Peters

"Last weeks I made some nice music but none of it was good enough to record in my opinion or I could not play it without hitting the wrong keys...

This week I came up with this track. On the Cirklon there are 5 monophonic sequences. The bass is played on the Synthesizers.com Modular. The other voices are played on the Synthesizers.com and Eurorack Modular, the Tom Oberheim SEM and the Korg ARP Odyssey. One polyphonic sequence is played on the Roland JD-800 doing a strings sound. The manual keyboard interaction is done on the Polymoog, which is fed through a Behringer VP1 Phaser, and the Minimoog. In the video I have placed some pictures so you can see which modules and instruments are playing.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. I hope you will enjoy it.

The track can be downloaded from Bandcamp:"

Reflections

Martin Peters

"This music is somewhat inspired by the beautiful music accompanying the slide show of the Node Live Blu-Ray. You hear the Sequentix Cirklon sequencing 2 voices of the Synthesizers.com Modular, the Oberheim SEM and the Mutable Instruments Stages which is configured as a Harmonic Oscillator. The NDLR is sequencing the Korg Odyssey and the DSI Mopho. The VCF of the Moog Polymoog is triggered by the gates of a separate Cirklon sequence. The solo is on the Moog Minimoog.

The title refers to questions spinning around in my head for which no one knows the answers to.

The track was recorded live to multi-track on the Behringer X32 Compact and mixed in Studio One afterwards. I hope you will enjoy it.

The track can be downloaded from Bandcamp."

Nothing Fancy

Martin Peters

"Last week I thought it was time to do some maintenance on the Polymoog. Three keys in the lower region were not working and I wanted to investigate the keyboard dynamics. Jareth Lackey helped me a lot with the keyboard dynamics: Thanks for that. There is a little mod on the back side for the S-Trig input with a 1/8" jack bus, a BC182A transistor and a 10K resistor. It was already there when I bought it but the transistor got loose from the wiring. So I connected that again. And during tested it, I came up with this little tune. The Polymoog modded S-Trig input is connected to a gate output of the Cirklon. The Cirklon also sequences a bassline on the Synthesizers.com and a sequence on the SEM. The NDLR drives the Mopho with a sequence. The solo is on the Minimoog. It is recorded from the stereo output of my mixer. All very simple, nothing fancy. Hope you like it."

Things2Come

Martin Peters

"I recorded this video on the 3rd of May. But I was not sure if it was good enough to share. Since then, I have grown to like it more and more. The songs is very melancholic and kind of reflects the mood I am in lately. The solo reminds me somewhat of Dave Stewart in his National Health years. The song is very basic with only 5 tracks: the bass from the Synthesizers.com Modular driven by the Cirklon sequencer, 2 sequences generated by the NDLR driving the DSI Mopho and the Korg ARP Odyssey, the strings from the Roland JD-800 also driven by the NDLR and the solo in the Moog Minimoog. The Cirklon clocks the NDLR and also sequences the chord and chord-type changes.

The track was recorded live to multi-track in Studio One and I did some little mixing afterwards. Hope you will enjoy it.

The track is uploaded to Bandcamp. Search for Attorks and you will find it."

Improvisation with Cirklon and NDLR

Published on Feb 22, 2020 Martin Peters

"It has been a while for various reasons. But this afternoon I thought, let's do a quick improvisation to show off with the NDLR. I got the NDLR at the end of last December and it is a great source of inspiration. The Cirklon clocks the NDLR and sequences the NDLR's chord progressions by sending CC messages. The NDLR drives the Mopho and the Korg ARP Odyssey as the 2 motif's and the Roland JD-800 as the pad. The Cirklon drives the Synthesizers.com for the bass, the SEM, the Plaits and the Braids for the snare sound. Some soloing on the Moog Voyager Old School, the Moog Prodigy and the Moog Polymoog Synthesizer. This all is recorded in 1 take. Sorry for my bad camera work and the fact that the camera stopped after 15 minutes. Hope you enjoy it nevertheless."

From Scratch

Published on Jul 30, 2018 Martin Peters

"It has been quiet warm here in the Netherlands for the last few weeks. So the room on the first floor under the sloping roof where my synths are located, is not a pleasant place to be: to warm. But last weekend it was somewhat cooler so I thought let's do a challenge.

So, no preparations. The Cirklon has a blank song, no sequences are pre-programmed. An let's see if I can make an acceptable song within reasonable time. I will let you be the judge if I succeeded in that.

The first sequence is on the Rob Hordijk's OSC HRM combined with a Krisp1 TZ VCO running through Synthesizers.com VCF/VCA/EG's. The second sequence is on the Tom Oberheim SEM. The third sequence (bass) is all Synthesizers.com except for the MOSLAB 904-A LPF. The fourth sequence is on the DSI Mopho. The strings are from the E-MU Vintage Keys and the Roland JD800.

Sorry for the camera position which could be turned more to the left but I noticed that afterwards. So you cannot see my right hand playing the Roland JD800.

Hope you enjoy it."

Endless

Published on May 1, 2018 Martin Peters

"I intended to make a 5 minute or so video with this piece of music but it turned out somewhat longer. It starts and ends with some Mutable Instruments Clouds goodness accompanied by two pictures of the wonderful Gran Sasso area in Italy which we visited last year. Sequences are from the DSI Mopho, Mutable Instruments Braids, SynthTech E330, Mutable Instruments Elements, Oberheim SEM, Korg ARP Odyssey, Rob Hordijk OSC-HRM and the Synthesizers.com Modular, all driven by the Cirklon sequencer. Recorded live and multi-track in Studio One and mixed afterwards. Hope you like it."

Sign of Life

Published on Mar 19, 2015 Martin Peters

"It has been a while for various reasons. Lately I am trying to make music for a CD or BandCamp so maybe this will be realized in the coming months. Anyways, this is an improvisation I did last evening. It was recorded in one take.
There are 4 tracks sequenced by the Cirklon:
- Two Synthesizers.com VCO's mixed by the STG mixer into a MOS-LAB 904-A filter
- The MOS-LAB KOBOL VCO and a Synthesizers.com VCO filtered by a STG Post Lawsuit Filter
- The Rob Hordijk OSC HRM
- Percussive noise from the Self Built Modular
The tracks are manually transposed from Em, Gm, Am and Cm using different scenes. The solo is played on the Moog Voyager Old School. And the Yamaha SY77 is used to add some chords. Please enjoy."

Kingsday in Iceland

Published on Apr 26, 2014 Martin Peters·121 videos

"Today it is Kingsday in the Netherlands to celebrate the King. Also my son Mark is traveling to Iceland today for a short holiday. That should explain the title.

Anyways, this is an improvisation with the Cirklon sequencer and the Modular. There are 4 sequences going on. The first sequence is a 6-steps, transposed sequence using one Synthesizers.com Q106 VCO and the Q107 VCF. After that an 8-step sequence for the Rob Hordijk OSC HRM joins. And then an 8-step sequence using one Q106 VCO, the Corsynth C104 VCO an the Q150 VCF. I use the skip feature on the Cirklon to alter the this sequence. The fourth sequence is driving the Corsynth C105 which outputs noise to add some percussion to it all and uses the STG Soundlabs Digital Attenuator. The SSL 1250 Quad LFO is modulating the 3 sequences. Chords are playing on the Yamaha SY22 which is also connected with MIDI to the Roland SC-880.

Fox on the run

Published on Feb 22, 2014 Martin Peters·120 videos

"Here a little tune I came up with this week. Imagine yourself watching a hungry fox in a landscape full of snow. Start this music and let your imagination run wild.

The music starts with string sounds from the Roland XP-80 and the Clavia Nord Lead 1. Then I start the Sequentix Cirklon sequencer which has 3 sequences. One sequence drives the self-built Modular and the Ian Fritz Through-Zero Oscillator which in its turn drives the Blacet MiniWave. The Buchla Resonant LoPass Gate clone is inserted between the self-built Modulars VCF and VCA and I manually control the frequency and resonance knobs. The second sequence drives some percussive sounds from the Oberheim OB-Mx. The third sequence drives the Moog Prodigy which volume I control on the mixer because the Prodigy is behind me and out of reach.

Anne made the video with my iPhone. You can download the video and music from my website soon."

Leaving The Nest

Published on Feb 8, 2014 Martin Peters·118 videos

"This music is going nowhere and maybe it's a bit too long. I hope you won't be bored, But it is fun to play. And I wanted to show off my newly acquired CorSynth C105 VC Noise / Lo-Fi Machine.
The Cirklon has 4 sequences going. It starts with the Moog Prodigy. Then the bass line from the Yamaha CS-30L comes in. After that you hear the self-built Modular which has the CorSynth C105 between the VCF and the VCA. The 4th random sequence comes from the Oberheim OB-Mx of which I occasionally vary the tuning of VCO 2. Chords are played on the Roland XP-80, the Waldorf Q Keyboard and some notes are played on the Clavia Nord Lead 1. Anne made the video with my iPhone but at around 20 minutes the iPhone had no space left. The music goes on a bit though. You can download that from my website soon. The title refers to my son Mark who is living on his own now. I hope he will be very happy in his own house."

Friday the 13th Rock

Published on Dec 15, 2013 Martin Peters·117 videos

"Here a little tune I made last Friday the 13th. I hope you like it. There are three 16-step sequences from the Sequentix Cirklon. It starts with the Moog Prodigy. After that 2 voices from the Synthesizers.com Modular come in, each voice with only one Q106 oscillator. The sequences are transposed by the Cirklon 5 semitones and 7 semitones down. But I made alterations to the transposed sequences to make it sound less static. The strings are done on the Waldorf Q Keyboard and the solo on the Minimoog Voyager.

Anne used my iPhone 4 to film this video. The audio is recorded live from the stereo main mix on the Mackie Onyx 1620 firewire card using Reaper DAW.

You can download/see/hear the video and music from my website in about a week."

First steps with the Cirklon

Published on Nov 15, 2013 Martin Peters·116 videos

"Made a song on the newly acquired Sequentix Cirklon that I wanted to share with you. Nothing too fancy, just basic stuff. I use 5 tracks of which 4 of them uses the Cirklons CVIO outputs and the Minimoog Voyager uses a MIDI output. The music starts with a sequence on the Rob Hordijk OSC HRM driven by a Synthesizers.com Q109 which is joined by a sequence on the Minimoog Voyager. After that sequences on the Synthesizers.com and the Moog Prodigy are joining and now and than a sequence on the Yamaha CS-30L can be heard.

Anne used my iPhone 4 to film this video. The audio is recorded live from the stereo main mix on the Mackie Onyx 1620 firewire card using Reaper DAW.
